INDIAN SNEAKER CULTURE:-
Today the Indian sneaker culture is mainly dominated by foreign brands with the likes of Adidas, Nike, Puma, and many more. No doubt that they are doing a great job designing some of the most iconic sneakers and providing India with some of the world’s groundbreaking technologies but as an Indian I feel proud seeing homegrown brands to break the market and provide the local public with groundbreaking products themselves.
Though there are a lots of homegrown brands that do a great work with footwear like Relaxo, Red chief, etc… but they are not solely focused on sneaker production, so here I will only focus on brands that are into sneaker production.
India, even in the sneaker space has a lots of brands but we will discuss only about the 3 brands that I think are making stylish sneakers with good technology and affordable price. And don’t get offended if any of your favourite sneaker brand is not in the list, just comment about the brand and we will cover that brand in some of our upcoming articles.
Keep in mind that the list is not according to any chronological order and is kept random for the sake of subjectiveness of the sneaker market. So now let’s dive deep into the story of these 3 homegrown sneaker brands.
1) BERSACHE :-
Bersache is one of the fastest growing Indian sneaker brand, which produces some of the most fashionable and stylish sneakers in the market, before knowing more about Bersache we should first dive deep into the story of Apeksha international, its parent company.
Established in 2006, Apeksha International is a known name in the Indian footwear market. It is one of the top supplier of loafer shoes, casual shoes and running shoes. The supplier company is located in Delhi and produces a variety of footwear products, that are currently popular in the market.
In 2009, Apeksha International created a sub brand that just focuses on sneaker production and named it Bersache. Since then Bersache is growing at an enormous pace and it is providing some of the most stylish, fashionable and comfortable sneakers in the Indian market. It recently signed Vivek Oberoi as its brand ambassador.
2) 7-10 :-
7-10 is quite a funky my name for a sneaker brand but mark my words because if this name seems funky to you then their sneakers are at another level.
Founded on February 7, 2022 by Shibani Bhagat, who has a unique fashion-focused background, having spent some years launching and promoting homegrown brands in the fashion and e-commerce space. She previously founded Divaat, a fast fashion and e-commerce portal and co-founded Curto, a menswear multi-designer store.
Talking about 7-10, she says that, “I realised that while India continues to be the second-largest manufacturer of footwear in the world, it lacked a local brand that featured on the global sneaker market”.
7-10 is a homegrown sneaker design house geared to combine high fashion, great quality, and affordability. The brand has been conceptualised to fill the growing need for a homegrown product that puts India on the map for the rapidly growing sneaker culture across the globe.
They predominantly use various kinds of PU (Polyurethane), synthetic suede, air mesh, and translucent PVC for the sneakers.
